A Lifetime of Service: John Langham’s Commitment to CSC

For nearly three decades, John Langham has been a dedicated leader and advocate for Cancer Support Community Indiana—bringing a lifelong commitment to service, family, and community to his role on the board.

John’s passion for giving back began early. Raised in the Detroit area as one of six children in a close-knit immigrant family, he was shaped by parents who believed deeply in helping others. His mother volunteered for more than 20 years with St. Vincent de Paul, while his father balanced a demanding engineering career with a steadfast commitment to family. Together, they instilled values of compassion, faith, and service that continue to guide John today.

John was introduced to CSC Indiana in 1997 through Karen Lytle, a founding board member and longtime family connection. What began as an invitation to serve quickly became one of the most meaningful parts of his life. Over the years, John has supported CSC in many ways—serving on the board, participating in committees, supporting events and fundraising efforts, and stepping into leadership roles when needed.

One of the most impactful experiences of his tenure came recently, when John served as Interim CEO for five and a half months. While he had long believed in CSC’s mission, this role offered a deeper, more personal understanding of its impact. Through conversations with individuals and families walking through CSC’s doors, he witnessed firsthand the power of connection, compassion, and support.

“The world seemed to slow down in those moments,” John shared. “The connections felt incredibly real.”

That experience reinforced what John has long known—CSC’s work is essential. Each year, as he reflects on his professional, personal, and volunteer commitments, his involvement with CSC stands out as one of the most meaningful.

Looking ahead, John envisions a future where no one facing cancer ever feels alone. With expanded resources, CSC could reach even more individuals and families—ensuring access to the emotional support, education, and community connection they need during one of life’s most difficult journeys.

Because for John, and for CSC, this work is about more than services—it’s about showing up for people when it matters most.
