Questions & Answers
What does Cancer Support Community do?
Cancer Support Community offers free programs and classes that have proven to raise the quality of life for cancer patients (and their loved ones), as well as keep patients on track with their traditional treatments. Our psychosocial programs are just one part of the continuum of care for those fighting cancer.
From strength training classes like yoga and tai chi, to support groups with other people experiencing exactly what you are, we build a community of support for you to lean on in your hardest times and come back to as often as you need.
Cancer Support Community doesn’t offer financial assistance, medical advice or services, or referrals. However, we do offer regular educational forums and classes that can teach you about the disease and prepare you on the road to recovery.
Our programs are not an alternative to or substitute for traditional treatment. They are an adjunct to treatment prescribed by a patient’s healthcare team. However, no one is turned away from our services, regardless of whether they’re receiving treatment.
What does it cost to participate in Cancer Support Community’s programs?
Our programs don’t cost a thing. Cancer Support Community Central Indiana is a nonprofit organization and does not charge for any of its services, thanks to the support of generous contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations. We also hold various fundraising events to help ensure that our programs remain free of charge to anyone impacted by cancer.
We don’t receive any financial support through federal or state government funding, insurance, or national cancer organizations, nor are we a United Way designated agency (though you can direct your United Way contribution to CSC Central Indiana).
What can I get out of Cancer Support Community’s programs?
Research has shown that how you think and feel can have an impact on your immune system. All of our programs have been designed with that research in mind. Our goal is to raise the quality of life of anyone fighting cancer through strength training classes like yoga or tai chi, and build a network of people who have similar experiences through support groups and other activities that build camaraderie.
