At 32, Claire Rollins never expected her life to change so quickly. After discovering a lump during a self-exam, she was diagnosed with stage 1b invasive ductal carcinoma. Today, she is in remission and finding strength, connection, and healing through Cancer Support Community Indiana.
A special education teacher on the southeast side of Indianapolis, Claire first learned about CSC through her nurse navigator. Since then, she has participated in the breast cancer support group, art therapy, and a six-week survivorship program. Each experience, she shares, helped her feel “heard and validated” during one of the most challenging times in her life.
Through CSC, Claire found more than support, she found community. Monthly supper and support gatherings became especially meaningful, offering a space to connect, share a meal, and build lasting friendships.
“Cancer Support Community is like my family. It feels like going over to my other mom’s house. I can get the support I need, cry when I need to, and connect with others which is invaluable to me.”
Claire says CSC’s programs reminded her she’s not alone and taught her how to ask for help and lean on others. As she continues her survivorship journey, she carries with her simple but powerful lessons in self-care—even on the hardest days.
To anyone considering getting involved, Claire offers this advice: “don’t be afraid to take that first step.” At CSC, you’ll find a welcoming community ready to support you every step of the way.
